Free Summer Reading Calendars

I have created a little freebie designed especially for parents to use this summer. We've all heard of the "summer slide" where students  take a little dip in their academic abilities during the summer. The best way to prevent or lessen the effects of the "summer slide" is READING!

The Children's Reading Foundation recommends that children read for at least 20 minutes each night. Just because it's summer doesn't mean students should skip their at home reading!

To help parents keep track of the minutes read this summer, I have created some cute reading calendars that can be used all summer long. (You better believe that I'll also be using these calendars to track the minutes I read aloud to my kids!)

I realize that the dates on my summer reading calendar might not work for everyone since everyone's summer break schedule varies so much. If the calendar above doesn't work for you, here are two calendars you can use for July and August.

You'll notice I've put a goal on each of these calendars. I thought it would be fun to have your children work towards a reading goal for summer. As a parent, you can decide if there will be a special reward for reaching the goal. For my kids, I've decided that if we can reach our goal, I'll take them to a bookstore and let them each pick out a new book to add to our home library collection. (There might also be a snow cone or other special treat involved too!)

Hope you like and enjoy these calendars!
HAPPY SUMMER READING!!
