February is FUN! {Valentine's, President's, and 100's Day}

February is busy, busy, busy!

First off, Valentine's Day!

1st grader: Why do we have Valentine's Day?

Me: Um.... to show we love each other.

1st grader: Ok! Cool!

Me: *walks to computer to Google it*
And that's how this mini-unit was born! Without getting too religious, I teach my students about the Legend of St. Valentine and they love it! It's a fun, interactive mini-unit that can take a week or one day! It's whatever you want it to be. I made it a few years ago but updated it today!

If you like the format of my Martin Luther King mini-unit, you will enjoy this one! This mini-unit is a great way to teach your students why we celebrate Valentine's Day (without being too religious).

One of my favorite days of the year! The 100th day of school! I don't know what teacher thought "You know what would be fun? If we made the 100th day of school a big deal?" Well whoever you are, teacher out there, I SALUTE YOU! I love 100's day!

This 100's Day Book is perfect for your 100's day!

Need something simple, fun, and engaging for your K-2 kiddos on 100's day? With just a click, print  and a staple in the left corner?! You've got it here in this 100's Day Book!

It's simple enough students can work on it on their own, but also tied to the curriculum (reading, writing, and math). You can work on one or two pages each day, not even make it into a book (use the pages individually) or you can use the whole book on the 100th day! It's up to you!
The book can be up to 19 pages (including the cover).

I've differentiated many of the pages as well. There is a kinder version, 1st grade version and 2nd grade version!

Valentines For Your Students!

My students will get PLENTY of candy and treats from their peers PLUS with SO many good allergies I have decided to go the non-food route the past couple of years.  Once I went to Target, Hobby Lobby, and The Dollar Tree...I was SO inspired! Hopefully you can use these ideas for years to come and never have to repeat. :) I wanted the Valentine cards to be simple, but fun (and to save ink).

13 Non-Food Valentine Ideas {with printables}

Since I've been SO conscious of what I'm eating on this fitness journey of mine...I've decided to change some of the things I do in my classroom as well.  My students will get PLENTY of candy and treats from their peers, so I decided to go the non-food route this year.  Once I went to Target, Hobby Lobby, and The Dollar Tree...I was SO inspired! Hopefully you can use these ideas for years to come and never have to repeat. :) I wanted the Valentine cards to be simple, but fun (and to save ink).

Looking for something extra for your Valentine's Day in your classroom?

Share the Love!!

I am getting so excited for Valentine's Day!! Maybe it's because February is my birthday month, but I have always really loved Valentine's Day! Even though it can get a *little* bit crazy in my classroom, Valentine's is a fun day to celebrate friendship and focus on classroom unity.

Have you seen the HUGE Valentine's giveaway?! The cute Erica Bohrer is hosting an incredible giveaway - 18 Valentine's themed prizes from some of the top bloggers!!

Also, I just uploaded a cute Valentine's Day pennant banner to my TPT store.
Check it out  HERE!

A Very Sweet Valentine's Day

I was in need of some fun, but *very* educational games for my kiddos to play on Valentine's Day. I decided to make a packet of math and literacy centers for Valentine's Day. It's just necessary to do things a little bit different on Valentine's Day. :)

These math and literacy centers are "very sweet" and can be used the whole month of February {and beyond}! They will be perfect for Valentine's day, but I've also included non-Valentine's Day words for the games {for my friends who do not celebrate Valentine's Day}. This 58 page packet includes 3 math and 3 literacy centers in both color and black and white.

There are 3 math centers:
Heart Patterns
Sweet Treat {cupcake graphing} with recording sheet
Don't Break My Heart {time to the hour} with recording sheet

There are 3 literacy centers:
Love Letters {long/short i sort} with recording sheet
Punctuation Sort with recording sheet
I Scream For Ice Cream {digraph sort} with recording sheet

P.S. Did ya'll see my funny story on our Facebook Page?  If not, here it is:

I was teaching a guided reading group today and we were reading a non-fiction book about gorillas. I decided it was a perfect time for me to expose them to the table of contents and the index.

I asked, "Does anyone know what in index is used for?"

One of my students raised his hand SO high and said, "Yes, it's what my mom uses to clean the windows!"

Nope, we were talking about an INDEX, not WINDEX! :)
