Blending Practice Your Students Will LOVE

I've been working with one of my students who is still struggling to blend simple CVC words.  I honestly found that he LOVES my little word slider game that I made years ago.  He begged to play it and it's really helped him slide those words together to blend CVC words.
The teacher pulls out one letter at a time from the slider.  The student says the name of the sound and the teacher moves on to the next letter.  To make it a little easier, I have them blend the first two sounds together and then add the last sound on. The student says the word at the end. They can check to see if they got the word right by looking at the picture at the end! They LOVE it and it's so simple (the slider is made from a letter-sized envelope).

Holidays Around the World Plans 2017

I'm excited for Holidays Around the World this year because 3 countries that we are learning about have their actual winter holiday fall on the date we are learning about it! *indicates those countries on my plans for this year.

I know you're spending your own money on this and I want you to make the most informed decision. Because of the updates I've made the past year, I feel like this product has everything we need to teach Holidays Around the World and not get sick of it each year (there are SO many options, guys!).  Want to know more? I've made this video to describe pretty much everything in the pack so you can see exactly what's included.

Something I wanted to add in my unit was a complete EXPERIENCE that the students get! Play the sound of an airplane taking off, dress like a flight attendant, pass out the in-flight snack, and fasten your seat-belts!  The WORLD AIRLINES will take off in 3, 2, 1.

Remember, in my pack, there is such a variety that each year you can change it up! You don't have to do all of the countries each year. The wonderful part about being the boss of applesauce is that you decided. With my new update of my pack this year, I've included more writing components and supplementals. It's JAM PACKED! Each country also has a reading passage to go with it so you can stop googling each country right before you "teach" it to your students (I'm talking to you Carly, hahah).  I've also included links to websites and books.... so I have pretty much done all the work for you. You're welcome. Kidding!!! ;) Kind of.

Ok, ready to take a look? The best deal is the BUNDLED pack (which includes 13 countries).

Wonder (Freebie)

You've read it, right? The fabulous book by R.J. Palacio called Wonder? I cried and cried when I read it. I wanted to read it to my class, but I decided that it wasn't a good fit for my students at the time (it's recommended for 3rd grade and up). And then I found We're All Wonders (basically the picture book version of Auggie's story) and immediately read it to my 1st grade students! We had a wonderful discussion about how we treat others who are different from us.

I wanted them to make a text-to-self connection so I did a writing extension. Then I made a cover. Then I made a bulletin board. DOES THE WORK EVER STOP! HA! The writing can go with either book.

I wanted to spread a little kindness to you. You can snag this for free in my store! Leave me a little love in the feedback.
