I set the stack of cards on the table and tell my students to:
- Read their assigned guided reading book with their group.
- Write a summary of the book using the four target words: first, then, next, last.
- Choose a project card and complete (I let them choose to do a group project or an individual project).
- Turn their projects and guided reading books into me and receive their new book.
I like this for a couple of reasons: it let's students have some choice in how they demonstrate their knowledge, allows them to use their creativity, and keeps them busy while I do guided reading with my small groups.
Here are some of the finished projects:

Great idea!!! Thank you!
I am unable to open the project cards document. Any suggestions?
I love all your great ideas for guided reading. Is there a way to get a copy of your Reading Project Cards? I wouldn't mind paying for them! Do you have them on teacherspayteachers.com?
I am unable to download these but I would love to get a copy. I saw another teacher posted a more decorative set from you. How can I get these?
