FREE fonts that I'm OBSESSED over!

Y'all know how much I love fonts!?!  And you know how much I love FREE fonts?!?!
My new OBSESSION is Kimberly Geswein Fonts.
Well, my dreams have come true. She has named a font after our little old blog.  Do you love it? I can't wait to use it!  I love that it's easy to read, yet still bold and CUTE and FREEEEEEE!

Click the above picture to download for FREE {personal use}
 I *SERIOUSLY* love all of her fonts.
 She offers all of her fonts for FREE for personal use.  If you'd like to purchase one of her fonts for commercial use, she asks for a $5.00 donation but is on sale for  $4.00 {totally worth it}. If you'd like to buy a commercial-use license to ALL of her current fonts and ALL future fonts {she has HUNDREDS and is always coming out with more each week}, then you can buy her ultimate font license for commercial use {this was the route I went, and I don't regret it one bit}.

Check out her TpT store because she's having a 3 day sale for 20% off of her commercial use licenses!

I'm telling you right now... her fonts are SO cute!  She's got something for everyone!
Here are some of my favorites ....

Presidential FUN!

Alright, y'all. Who ya voting for? JUST KIDDING!  I would never ask that question and I don't necessarily plan to go too in depth about "the" election in my class. I'll probably introduce both candidates to my class with a picture, read a book about each of them, and talk about the election process. Romney does not have any books at my library, but I did find a few kids' websites that tell all about him:

 So, I have had a lot of requests for a Mitt Romney poster to go along with my presidents graphic organizers.  If you ask...you shall receive.  So, you can snag these for free!  If you'd like a President Obama as well... you'll have to snag that in my President's and US Symbols packet.

Download Governor Romney's posters {here}!

You can grab these in my President's Day and US Symbols Unit. Perfect for November or in February for President's Day!

Oh and someone asked in the comments why I just wouldn't use a real picture of the candidates for the posters.  My answer is... I can't because I don't have the right to post pictures that are copyrighted. I personally don't own any pictures of either of the candidates and I cannot just take an image off the internet and post it on my product on my blog. :)  Just an FYI.

Holiday Writing {Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas!}

I have to admit, as an upper elementary teacher {5th grade}, I get really jealous when I see all of the cute holiday related activities for all the lower grade classes. It's hard to fit in all of the regular curriculum into the school year, let alone adding in all the cute and fun ideas I see all over Pinterest.

One great way to celebrate the holidays in the upper grades is to incorporate it into your writing instruction. Because students LOVE holidays like Halloween and Christmas, they also LOVE writing about them too. It's a good way to get those reluctant writers excited about writing.

I have created three products that will help you integrate writing and holiday fun!

Halloween:

Thanksgiving:

{This is the BRAND NEW unit that I just added to TPT last night!}

Christmas:

I will be offering these items at a 10% discount for the next two days.

Halloween makes me want to.....

EAT. CANDY. ALL. DAY.

I don't have any kiddos, but I'm pretty sure this is how it was when I was growing up....

My very first unit on TpT was my Halloween Unit with Math, Literacy, and Art !  I'm so proud of this unit because it's my *baby*.  It's on sale until Wednesday, just for you my friends!

Eat candy and be well!

Best of Behavior Management {Part II}

Thanks again to all of the amazing teacher bloggers out there who linked up with us for our Behavior Management Linky Party! We had almost 100 entires into the party and today we're highlighting more of the amazing ideas that were posted.

In {Part I} of the 'Best of Behavior Management' series we posted about some free downloads available by talented bloggers.

Today, we wanted to share some CUTE and CREATIVE ideas with you:

I don't know about all of you, but I find that I am always needing to revamp my behavior management system. I love seeing so many fresh new ideas and ways to make learning fun in my classroom.

Thanks again to everyone who shared their ideas with us. We will continue to highlight ideas in the coming weeks. Until then, you can find other great ideas by clicking on the icon below.

What is a Scientist?

We've been talking about what a scientist is and what they do. I had them help me draw a scientist on the board.  I wish I had pictures...but DANG, I forgot my phone at home!  On the scientist, they drew glasses, lab coat, potions, crazy hair. It was FUNNY!  After they were finished, I told them that the picture was great, BUT that doesn't look like a scientist.  Scientists are in THIS classroom! WE ARE SCIENTISTS! :)

 I used Deanna Jump's "What do Scientist Do?"  freebie book to talk to my students about the scientific method:

And we read this book {a little advanced for first graders, but I'm good at skipping pages without them knowing}:

Afterwards, we  made ourselves into little scientists with lab coats.  This is inspired by Cara's cute little scientist craftivity.  We didn't have much time to do the whole body craftitivy, so I just made a template for the lab coat.  It worked great!

You can download the lab coat {here}!

Daily 5 {Listen to Reading & Book Shopping}

I just have an overload of things I need to tell you!  Daily 5 is up and running again in my classroom and our stamina is all built up! PHEWWW!! It seems like it takes FOREVER to build their stamina but it is SO worth it!  My kiddos are loving making their own choices in Daily 5 and I am loving having my guided reading groups without any interruptions. I've actually been doing groups for over a month, but now they are completely independent while I run the groups!

Listen to Reading has to be their favorite, of course.  I had parents donate any used CD players that they had hanging around their house. I sent home this letter last year and had about 5 donated:

I actually use iPads and Laptops also during listen to reading....but that's a whole nutha post! :)

Then, our grade bought headphones for all of our students. I used Washi tape to put their class number on the headphones.

Then, I stored them in little bins like this:

It's NOT working!!! They are tangled most of the time and it takes my kiddos FOREVER to get them out of their bin. Does anyone have a storage solution for me?  I wish they were the earbud kind of headsets, but they aren't.  I'm thinking of just not having one for each student and only get out the 6 that I need. What do you think??  If you need a direction sheet for your students on how to use the CD player, you can find that for free {here}.

Here are the labels for the bins if you need them! Click the picture to download.

Moving on to book shopping and IPick!  Here's what I do... I have certain days that my students can go book shopping. They can pick a round that they want to do it during {as long as it's not during their reading group or when they are supposed to be reading to a friend}.  3 students can be doing that at one time.  If there are already 3 student book shopping, that student can just go book shopping the next round.

Click the picture to download {it will open in powerpoint so that you can customize}.

I use this more for myself than anything.  After a student goes book shopping, they move their name to "yes" and then I know who has/hasn't book shopped that week {they might have been absent}. I made it out of a cookie sheet and my hubby drilled holes in the top to put the ribbon through.  Then, I used vinyl for the yes and no.  I put adhesive magnets on the back of their names. Ta-Da!

I LOVE this video for IPick.  I made a poster that goes with the IPick rap!
