First of all, you know my students are OBSESSED with Star Wars {check out this post here}.  I cannot even wait to introduce them to the 3D shapes using Star Wars names! This packet is from Natalie's Nook.

I am teaching adjectives this week and so I snagged this one. Let's just say...it's been a HIT today in my class!!!!  I HIGHLY recommend it! Thanks, Abby from The Inspired Apple!!!

I cannot even wait to use this next year with my kiddos!  I know that it takes some time to learn names, but what a great way to learn games WHILE integrated math and literacy!  Kim Adsit  from Kinder Gals is a rock star!

Oh wow, Michelle from Fabulous in First...you've outdone yourself with the cuteness of this one!!!!  It's not only super cute {love the clipart from Melonheadz}, but it's a PERFECT unit to teach punctuation!!!! LOVE!

This Landforms pack was made by the fabulous Amanda Nickerson from One Extra Degree. It was made for her 3rd graders but fits perfectly with my 5th grade science core!! I'm so excited to use it next year!!

My bloggy friend, Cheryl Saoud, from Primary Graffiti created this super cute Cherry Blossom unit! It's a great way to tie literature with science and social studies! LOVE IT!!

This Geometry for Kids! unit made by Crystal Spencer is great! This will be a perfect way for me to introduce geometry to my students next year!

Measurement Time!

We are working really hard on standard and non-standard units of measure! I like to introduce them to Mr. and Mrs. Measurement and tell a story about each of them {I googled the images for the tools though...I don't have that clipart}:

 Mrs. Measurement is standard.  This means that she has only certain tools that she uses.  She is a model in measurement.  She never makes mistakes because she is very careful to use the correct tool to measure exactly.  She measures with timers, calendars, yardsticks rulers, measuring cups, scales, and even a thermometer.  She is always right!

Mr. Measurement is non-standard.  This means that he uses ANYTHING to measure with.  Sometimes he uses materials that may not be what you would imagine.  He can measure with his arm, finger, blocks, yarn, and can even measure with his hands like a make-believe balance.  Even though it sounds silly, his non-standard methods work!

 Today, we had some extra time after our assembly and so I did a little review activity with them. They wrote 2 sentences telling about Mr. and Mrs. Measurement and made a picture of what they thought they should look like:

Oh and we get to do this one {it's a favorite} on Monday:

I had my kiddos travel around the classrooms in pairs, looking for a candy bar they'd like to measure {I had 2 of each candy bard and about 10 different kinds}.  They first talk about how many inches the bar might be (estimate), then they take turns measuring it, marking it on their paper, and recording the name of the bar and the inches.

Mother's Day Plates & Mayday Giveaway

Hey!! Guess who had their baby girl 2 weeks ago..... ME! And let me say, she is an absolute sweetheart! {Here's a link to her birth story if you're interested, and here's a link to her beautiful newborn photos.} Being a new mom again is wonderful, adapting to two kids is a fun adventure, and I kind of don't know what to do with myself now that I'm on maternity leave.

It's almost May which means it's time to start thinking about Mother's Day ideas. I thought I'd share what my students did last year. (I waited until the very last minute to get these done, that's why I never posted about it last year...)


This was a pretty simple craft, but turned out so darling! And the good news is that it costs a little less than $1 per student.


I found these plates at Ikea for 79 cents! (I almost just bought them at the Dollar Store... but I was able to save about $8 by buying them cheaper at Ikea.)

I went to a local craft store and found markers to write on the plates. I found that it was cheaper to buy this mug kit than it was to buy the markers separately. 

This is the mug kit I found - it came with 5 colored special markers!

Here's a mug I decorated as an example.

Super simple craft that is oh-so cute! I loved how different each of my students' plates turned out and how they each found their own way to personalize it for their moms. I can't wait until my kids are old enough to make me cute little presents at school!! ;)
