Management Monday: Managing your blog

This tip isn't really a classroom management post. It's a little tip to help you {and me}.

How many of you HATE these word verifiers? Yeah, they are checking to make sure robots are not posting on your blog, I get it.....

And by the way, I was not commenting at 3:33pm {during school}. It was 4:33pm. Promise.
I CAN NEVER FIGURE OUT THAT DANG THING!!! On some websites it's ever worse. Have you tried the word verification on Facebook? I have to refresh the word 100 times before I get it! And really, "tream". That's not even a word, I think.

It also takes away precious commenting time on my end.

So, I've devised a little plan to help you change your settings to the most user-friendly commenting settings. You can get more comments and I can give more comments. :)

Here's my tutorial:

Yes, once in a while I'll get a spam comment filter through, but I just delete it. And once in a while I get a mean comment on my blog from an anonymous reader and guess what....I DELETE IT! It's my blog and I'll do what I want to {well it's mine and Natalie's blog}. :)

And there you have it...more user-friendly commenting! Hope you enjoyed! What do you think? Clear as mud?

Um...hello? How did I not know about {this} video tutorial from Kristen at Ladybug's Teacher files BEFORE I made this post. Ahem.

Thanks for the tutorial!!! I just changed mine! I would love for you to come and check out my new blog!

Thank you, friend! This was a great post, and you convinced me to change my settings! I received a pretty mean message on my blog once, so I started to moderate comments. However, you're right. It's annoying. I hate it. I also hate that I am annoying people. I need to stop being a control freak. You are so persuasive! :) You should be a motivational speaker! I'd come see you! {I still want to meet up anyway!}

I just figured this out the other day! Thanks for the post though, maybe other people will get the hint and get rid of them! :)

Tammy said...

OHHHH that will be so much better I hate those things, although it is fun sometimes to try and make REAL words out of those things. lol

Definitely better, now if everybody would do this!! Thanks!!

Yep, I so agree. It's the BEST thing ever doing away with that word verifier. I did it months ago on my blog.
I've had a few Spam comments slide through, but it's easy to delete.

Absolutely perfectly clear tutorial and I totally agreed...I removed mine awhile back because that code was driving me so crazy!!! Happy New Year Rachelle (and Natalie!!)

Kristin said...

Okay, I had to come back. I just double checked my settings to make sure my peeps didn't have to do a word verification (I changed it a long time ago) and guess what? TWO of YOUR comments were in my SPAM.
Kind of funny, if you ask me. :)

I am still very new to blogging and I hate having to do all that work to leave comments. Manty times I just give up. I am so glad that my blog is now fixed!!!!Thanks!

Kristen said...

Ok, this is really embarrassing to admit, but I truly have no recollection of making a tutorial on this. I remember taking off my code when I realized I didn't care about the spam, but I really don't remember talking about it on my blog! How bad is that?! I'm so glad you did this because, obviously, you know what you are posting and take the time to do so in a clear fashion, lol!! You are awesome Rachelle, as always!

I did this over the summer and I think I've had about 3 spam-ish comments since then. big whoop. I always love when I leave a comment and I don't have to pretend I'm deciphering some ancient language!

Thank you for allowing anonymous comments....I don't have a blog or a google account so I can't comment on many blogs. I love reading and getting awesome ideas from other teachers, but I am an "outsider" (blog-free)!

Thank you so much for the lesson. I have had a personal blog for my family, but I just started a teacher blog. I have taught for 14 years, and I'm trying to get my mojo back. Ha!

Cara Carroll said...

Ooooh...I totally think I have this?!?! At least, I know I do on my other blogs!! I got a few rude comments on my personal blogs and now I don't accept anonymous comments and I'm pretty sure I'm extra annoying with the word verification, too. Gosh darnit...didn't these people learn the whole, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all?!?!" With that said, I need to at least change the settings on my teaching blog! Thanks for the tips, girl! Love it!

One last time, I promise!
I don't know why you were in my Spam but I also felt as if I'd read those comments before so quite possibly, they went to two different places? I didn't mean to upset you --- and I will have a very stern talk with blogger and my upper management team. Someone will pay! Heads will roll! They haven't heard the last from me! :)
