Management Monday: Classroom Jobs

I like jobs and I understand how necessary they are in a classroom. It teaches students responsibility, time management, and to take pride in their classrooms. I used to only have about 4 jobs. The rest of my students were *BORED* at the end of the day and our routine was LOUD because the other 20 kiddos didn't have anything to do! Some students don't have a job in my classroom, but they are considered "for hire".  If someone is absent or isn't remember to do their job, I'll hire them to fill in!

I included what each job does, but you can have them do whatever you want!

I made the job cards so they fit in this {from Really Good Stuff}:
Mine looks like this:

I put velcro on their names and velcro on the outside left of the schedule chart {I want to be able to use it every year, so the names are removable}. The actual job is what I rotate/move each week.

How do you manage your classroom jobs?

I used to have a job pond and half my class would have jobs. THis year I want to try just 2 people everyday doing jobs. I was wondering how I was going to display jobs and love your cards. Would you be willing to make a few more?

I like how your set this up.

My brain could never rememeber to change jobs, so after two years of trying weekly jobs, I said, "Forget it! " I then created a "student of the day" poster. That person did everything!! Then at the end of the day, he/she would choose a new name for the next day! The kids love it and it works for me!

I put my students' heads on community helper bodies. My kiddos think it's hilarious!!

I still haven't figured out my jobs for this year. Yours are super cute! Thanks for sharing! :)

I have two "work" gloves. I stuff them, sew them shut and add a face to them. Those are my helping hands. THe helping hands do every job for the entire day. Their final job is moving the gloves to the next desk. Been doing this for years, and it works perfectly for me.

I love jobs! I have 8 jobs and I change them everyday during calendar. It keeps the kids on their toes and gets them excited about doing their jobs. I have a line leader, door holder, caboose/lights, secretary, classroom manager, computer manager, and 2 table washers. Your signs are much cuter than mine. I have a sports theme so I have the jobs written on helmets and then I stick on little footballs that have their names on them with Velcro.

I love those! Thanks for sharing! I always have used magnets and posted the jobs on one of my metal cabinets. I write the description of the job on the back so they can see what they're supposed to do, and the magnets make it super easy to switch the kids each week!

I have my kids apply for a job every 6 weeks (which is every new grading period). Every student in my class has a job to do. We talk about how every person in a community has a job to do so we all need to help out. It works well for me because I only have to think about it once every 6 weeks and the students seem to love it too!

Hi! What a great idea to use the pocket chart from Really Good Stuff! I had one as well. Here is what I did with it. . .

I read a book that I loved, when changing from 5th to 2nd. It suggested an assistant teacher each day. They do everything. They may choose a partner if they wish, but if they stall out too long in picking one. I pick one for them (someone who wouldn't get picked otherwise). I really like it!
